![]() Then I played golf with a friend who had a slim, fit bit type watch tied to his smartphone app, but he had to be within a certain distance for it to work. The reviews mentioned pressing so many buttons to get what you needed and that concerned me. After research, I settled on the Garmin S2, S5, or S6 but they were pricey so I delayed. Out of these 2, I give the edge to the Callaway.īased on the Garmin S2 a friend had, I decided to get a golf watch. If there was a minus 12 rating that would be given to the VivioactiveĮnjoy either the GPSy or S20 and you can't go wrong with either. When trying to figure out the Vivioactive I needed not only glasses but a magnifying glass and 3 hands and 18 fingers I can read the Callaway without my glasses but need the glasses to read my wife's S20. I don't golf with glasses as my long range vision is good. If you are a senior with poor sight up close or have "issues with technology" buy the Callaway as the S20 has more complicated to use and the Callaway is slightly better to read. If the upgrades for new courses prove to be an issue the rating would swap. I gave the Callawy 4 stars and as is give the S20 3.5 stars. For sure Garmin literature says the S20 can be. The only question unanswered is whether the callaway can be upgraded with maps when the new course near our house is finished. Overall I like the Callaway slightly better than the S20 but the Vivioactive should be taken off the market and melted to make running shoe soles. I think that is pretty good for such small devices. Not that 1 unit was right or wrong, each time we stopped it could be any one of the 3 would be the longest or shortest. On 1 round we also had a cart GPS and my wife and I would do comparisons several times per hole and the 3 (2 watches and 1 cart GPS) were usually be within 3 yards. I have played 9 rounds with it in the past 2 weeks and flawless performance. I have since learned you can buy adapters for 110 volt or car. On the topic of charging, both were disappointing as they only come with USB to plug into a computer. The S20 replacement for the Vivioactive is much better but if you get an S20, as soon as you take it off the easier to use charger you have to turn it off before you drive to the course as the GPS starts searching right away and battery is burning off. Charger is the only weak spot as you have to be careful connection is made. One nice thing about the Callaway is that it will work as a watch and the battery will last until you turn the GPS to play golf on. Can you believe it arrived being set to Russian?Īs we wanted to use them quickly I went and bought her a Garmin S20 at the PGA store which is much easier to use than the Vivioactive I read at least a hundred reviews before I bought this Callaway for myself.Īt the same time my wife chose a Garmin Vivioactive which will be getting returned as it takes a degree in computer engineering to get to work (my degree is chemical engineering so I did not meet the minimum requirements) once we searched online how to change from Russian to English to discover you have to pair to cell phone to down load courses. I like the simplicity as I only wanted a "golf only" watch
